Plastic Bag Reduction Initiative Meetings, Forums and VOTE at Town Meeting !
Attention residents....
Please plan to vote on an article to ban single use, thin film plastic bags at checkout at the Medfield Town Meeting on Monday, April 29 at 7:30 pm. MPRI (Medfield Plastic Reduction Initiative) has partnered with the Savvy Women’s Alliance, Medfield Chapter to host multiple educational events for the public to learn about the extent of the plastic waste in
our town, nationally and globally. We strongly encourage more residents and students to join the discussion and learn more.
The MA Sierra Club reports that state residents use more than 2 billion bags per year (about a bag per person, per day) and it is estimated that 100 billion plastic bags are used in the United States annually. Plastic bags do not biodegrade, but rather break into very small pieces called micro plastics. After circulating in oceans where they are ingested by marine and wildlife, plastics have entered our food stream and can be found in seafood, table salt, tap water and beer.
