Letter to the Editor - MSH Rezoning Vote at STM on 11/18

Jean Mineo, "On Nov. 18, residents are asked to vote on rezoning the former Medfield State Hospital. I'll be voting yes..."

Dear Editor,

On Nov. 18, residents are asked to vote on rezoning the former Medfield State Hospital. I’ll be voting yes to make an informed decision about future development of the property.

The Master Planning Committee (full disclosure: I have been a Resource Member since 2014) has developed a concept plan based on public feedback and extensive financial modeling with the best information to date. The concept plan has been reviewed by developers and the data has been further vetted by the Warrant Committee - but it’s still a best guess, though indicators point to a favorable outcome for the Town.

The opposition is making their case based on assumptions as well. The point of rezoning is to get competitive bids from developers so that in the future, we can vote for or against development based on an actual proposal. The best way to get proposals is to rezone the property. To end the process based on anything less than a binding proposal is imprudent.

Sincerely,
