Marsden, Recipient of 2020 MSLA Admin Advocate Award

This award honors an administrator who has made significant contributions to the promotion of effective school library programs and services

Marsden named MA School Library Association 2020 Administrator Advocate Award Recipient

The Massachusetts School Library Association has named Dr. Jeffrey Marsden, Superintendent
of the Medfield Public Schools, as a recipient of the 2020 Administrator Advocate Award. This award honors an administrator who has made significant contributions to the promotion of effective school library programs and services. In addition, it recognizes the significant impact of a school administrator in developing successful school library programs within their own schools that influence the community at large.

Dr. Marsden has been a consistent and vocal advocate for Medfield’s school libraries since his appointment as Superintendent in 2013. According to Library Department Head, Kerry Cowell, “Thanks to his persistence and advocacy, the Memorial School was able not only to retain an amazing librarian but also established that our youngest students in Medfield will begin their academic journey with a vibrant program that follows them-- with full time, certified
librarians-- throughout their whole PreK-12 career!”

According to Ms. Cowell, Dr. Marsden has not only promoted professional library staffing in all Medfield Schools, he has ensured that the continuity of the library curriculum by appointing a district library leader. He has consistently promoted library programs by highlighting them in his
social media platforms and in supporting library programing in Medfield’s public schools.

The Massachusetts School Library Association is pleased to present the 2020 Administrator Advocate Award to Dr. Marsden and honors his leadership and advocacy so that students in the Medfield Public Schools are given 21st-century learning tools and the skills necessary for success later in life.

library program that is fully integrated at all grade levels across the curriculum and has a significant and measurable impact on student achievement.
