Medfield Lion, Liz Sandeman receives Eastern Mass 2018-2019 “LION OF THE YEAR” Award

Medfield resident, Elizabeth “Liz” Sandeman, was honored at the October meeting of the Medfield Lions by Immediate Past District Governor, Debbie Hayes (Millis), as the “Lion of the Year” for District 33K (Eastern Massachusetts) for the 2018-2019 year.

"I feel extremely honored to have been recognized to receive these awards. Being a Medfield Lion has enabled me to meet a fantastic group of local residents who are focused on helping the
community. My involvement with Lions Organ Donation Awareness (LODA) has given me the opportunity of raising awareness and dispelling myths surrounding organ and tissue donation within many Lion communities all over Massachusetts. My sister T, died waiting for a lung transplant and I don't want another family to lose a loved one needlessly because there are not enough registered organ donors. Knowing ANYONE can register as an organ and tissue donor comes as a surprise to many" said Sandeman.

In addition, Sandeman was honored by Lions Clubs International as a “New Voices” leader in the area of marketing and leadership. The New Voices Initiative celebrates women’s contributions to Lions Clubs International and promotes gender parity by focusing on increasing the number of women in Lions Clubs, as well as closing the gap between men and women in leadership positions.

“Liz is not only an outstanding Lion and women, she is an outstanding humanitarian and leader,” said IPDG Debbie Hayes. “Her dedication to her community and to her fellow Lions is unparalleled. She is always volunteering to help the citizens of Medfield and she can often be found traveling across the state promoting LODA (Lions Organ Donation Awareness); helping each of us understand the need for organ donation and dispelling the many myths that surround organ donation. I am truly thrilled to be able to present these awards to Liz, as she embodies everything that is wonderful about being in Lions and being a community leader.”

Sandeman joined the Medfield Lions Club in March of 2015 and since then has been a very active member. “She immediately became involved in the important and ongoing activities of our Club. She’s been a great help with our Medfield Day activities, Christmas Tree sales, Chowder Fest and Christmas Luncheon for our Senior Citizens, as well as being the point person for LODA for Massachusetts,” said fellow Lion, Toby Burrell.
