Nineteenth Week - Tuesday's "Medfield Historical Minute"
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.

A Medfield Historical Minute...
This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.
"Due to forced deportation from Eastern Canada's Maritime provinces, two groups of Acadians were sent to Medfield. One group arrived in the summer of 1756 and a second group in the autumn of 1756. Unable to speak the language, they were a problem for the town. Often unable to find shelter, they were in need of public charity. When the French and Indian War ended in 1763, under the terms of the treaty, the Acadians were granted permission to return home. Medfield selectmen voted 12 pounds British currency for the transportation home. All the Medfield Acadians were transported back to Canada by ship."
