Scouts BSA Troop 89 Announces Leadership Changes, Thanks Long-Serving Leaders

Troop 89 of Scouting America is proud to announce several significant leadership changes and express heartfelt gratitude to some of our most dedicated volunteers. These leaders have provided invaluable service and helped shape the success of the troop over many years.

Honoring Denise and Nick Iannone
Denise and Nick Iannone have dedicated 12 years to Troop 89, during which time their two sons became Eagle Scouts. Mrs. & Mr. Iannone revolutionized the Eagle Court of Honor process, creating a system that has made these ceremonies seamless and unforgettable. Mr. Iannone also served as a valuable committee member, offering his expertise during many Eagle Project reviews. The Troop extends its deepest thanks to the Iannones for their contributions, which have had a lasting impact on countless scouts.

Appreciating Hilli Passas
Hilli Passas has been a key leader in Troop 89 for 15 years. As the troop’s first-ever New Parent Coordinator, she created a comprehensive guide for new scout families, ensuring a smooth transition into the troop. Dr. Passas’ vast knowledge, drawn from her experience raising two Eagle Scouts, has greatly influenced many of Troop 89’s long-standing traditions. We are incredibly grateful for her many years of service and the positive mark she has left on our troop.

Recognizing Karl Kemp
Karl Kemp has served Troop 89 for seven years, with one Eagle Scout son and another nearing the rank. Mr. Kemp began his tenure as Trip Coordinator, implementing many popular trips still enjoyed today. He was instrumental in moving Troop 89's registrations online and assumed the role of Committee Chair four years ago when needed. His leadership, guidance, and unwavering support will be sorely missed, and we thank him for his many contributions.

Welcoming New Leaders
Jim Hatch, Troop 89’s longtime Scoutmaster, will be stepping into the role of Committee Chair. In this position, Mr. Hatch will continue to support the troop by leading the committee and overseeing troop operations. As Scoutmaster, he embodied the ideals of scouting and was recognized with numerous honors, including Scoutmaster of the Year by the Mayflower Council and the Heart of a Lion Award by the Medfield Lions Club. We are thrilled he will remain with the troop in this new role and continue to inspire scouts.

We are also excited to welcome Mr. Mike Jones as the new Scoutmaster for Troop 89. A proud Eagle Scout from Medfield, Mr. Jones brings a wealth of experience to the troop, having begun his scouting career with Pack 113 and Troop 10, where his father also served as Scoutmaster. One of his fondest memories was when his father won an award for shooting at Camp Squanto—a skill honed during his time as a police officer. For his Eagle Project, Mr. Jones created a hiking trail at Noon Hill, which is still in use today. Prior to joining Troop 89, Mr. Jones served as Cubmaster for Pack 200. He has been working closely with Mr. Hatch to ensure a smooth transition.

Thanking All Troop 89 Leaders
As we welcome these changes, we also express gratitude to all of the leaders who have dedicated their time and energy to making Troop 89 a vibrant and successful scouting unit. Troop 89 is fortunate to have such a passionate and committed team of volunteers supporting our scouts, and we look forward to many more years of growth and adventure under their leadership.
