A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"In 1919, “Captain” Evelyn Byng took members of the local girl scouts on an outing to North Scituate Beach. Captain Byng was associated with the girl scout program from the late 19-teens until the 1950s. Under her leadership, uniforms were issued and weekly meetings with military drilling took place. Scouts took hikes and treasure hunts throughout town. They took part in a day camp behind her 19 Wight Street estate called “Treasure End.” She took the Medfield scouts on camping and swimming trips, planned dances with a hired small orchestra and held an invitation affair: “a French dance.”
