Seventh Week - Monday's "Medfield Historical Minute"
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.

A Medfield Historical Minute...
This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.
"Early town names: One of the most ancient names given to a part of Medfield was the name “Nantasket.” According to early town records the name Nantasket applied to that area of land lying to the northeast of the intersection of Main and Pound Streets. One of the oldest Medfield grants of land stated “all that pond or pulkey piece of land which lyeth on the left hand of the highway leading out at the place we commonly call Nantasket.” The name Dingle Dell was given to the area along West Street in the neighborhood of its intersection with West Mill Street. Devil’s-foot Island is the name given to the rocky islet in the meadow near Stop River at the end of what is today Clark Road off South Street. It is so-called from several curious and strange depressions in the rocks. The name “Sleepy Hollow” was given to the area at the intersection of South, Elm and Knollwood Road, where there is a depression in the area. At times, there is a very distinct echo in this spot."
