Seventh Week - Tuesday's "Medfield Historical Minute"
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.

A Medfield Historical Minute...
This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.
"In 1806 a town movement began to have a post office in Medfield. A letter written to Congress on behalf of the town of Medfield states: “a post office established here would be a great convenience and benefit and will not, we think, create any expense to the United States, but will add something to its revenue. Medfield, as you know, is situated on the Middle Post Road from Boston to Hartford and we are increasing in population and business. It is true that there are post offices in Dedham and Medway but they are six and seven miles distant, and we find much difficulty in obtaining our letters and papers from these distant offices.” A Post Office was established in Medfield the following year on April 1, 1807. Samuel Seaver was appointed the first postmaster. He kept the post office in his store on the corner of North and Main Streets, site of today’s Starbucks."
