March 23, 2020 - Monday's MEDFIELD HISTORICAL MINUTE:

*All the land that is today Medfield, was originally in the land of the Neponset Tribe under the leadership of sachem Chickatabot.

They claimed all the land between the Neponset and Charles Rivers, including what is now Medfield. In 1621 Chickatabot entered into a treaty with the Pilgrims at Plymouth and ten years later with Massachusetts Bay Colony officials, turning the land over to the English.

The exact arrangement is somewhat indefinite and no deed was preserved, if one was ever given.

Dedham was founded upon this land in 1636 and Medfield in 1649 when it broke away from Dedham.*
