"In 1882, Medfield was in morning over the death of George Cummings. The Trustees of the Medfield Public Library stated: “The most marked event in the history of the Library is the death of George Cummings. He gave more for the support of the Library during his life than any other person has given. For this let him have all praise. During the year, the Library received $100 from his estate and $1,000 as a fund, for use by the Library. Though Mr. Cummings may be gone from our number, may we profit by his example and carry on the work of sustaining the Library which he helped to found and always loved.”
