Third Week - Sunday's “Medfield Historical Minute”
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.

A Medfield Historical Minute...
This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.
A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.
"St. Edward Church dedicated its 1,300-pound bell on December 22, 1900 and rang it for the first time on Christmas morning. It was cast by Meneely of Troy, New York. The bell was placed within the church’s altar rail during the dedication ceremony conducted by Bishop Brady of Boston. The inscription on the bell reads, “Dedicated to St. Catherine, presented to St. Edward Church, Medfield, Rev. John A. Donnelly, Pastor, A.D. 1900 by a friend. Gloria in Excelsior Deo.” The bell was then housed in the 40-foot church tower. St Edward Church was located on Main Street across from Town Hall from 1893 -1980, at the site of the park area where the gazebo is located next to the library. In 1980 the bell was moved from the original St. Edward into the bell tower of the new St. Edward on Spring Street. St. Edward Church on Main Street was demolished on October 15, 1985."
