A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.

A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.

A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"On September 22, 1701, Isaac Baley was hired to keep school in Medfield. Selectman Benjamin Clark “went down” to bring him to town from where he was a student at Harvard in Cambridge. At that time, it was the duty of the selectmen to procure teachers to teach in the Medfield schoolhouse. The schoolhouse was located on North Street at the site of today’s Nosh & Grog Provisions. Mr. Baley kept school here for six months for which he was paid 13 pounds, 10 shillings in money."
