A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"In the late summer of 1806 Lowell Mason and two friends, Moses Wight and Joseph Lovell went swimming in the Charles River. Mason, just 14 years old at the time, dove in the water and was unexpectedly carried by a quick current into deep water. Mason sank twice, yelling for help. Moses Wight dove in fully dressed and pulled Mason up to the surface, with Mason unconscious. On shore the friends got Mason to spit out a considerable amount of water that had flooded his lungs. They put him in his horse-drawn carriage and drove him the half mile back to his home. Mason had no recollection of the events since his first calls for help."
