A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.

A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"In 1779 Eliakim Allen married Mary Johnson of Franklin. He had lost his arm in an accident and fell into poverty. The town seemed to have sympathy, as in 1787 Medfield abated his taxes and gave him permission to cut wood on town property. In 1795 the town voted to permit him to build a house on town land. In 1797 the town voted him $15 “to help him in his present disability’ This same help was given to him in subsequent years."
