The Zullo Gallery is kicking off its 2026 First Thursday season with this special show...

On Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the gallery, 456A Main St., Medfield, trumpeter Tom Duprey and guitarist Scott Sandvik will perform a selection of pieces by the legendary Stephen Sondheim.

Duprey and Sandvik share a passion for the music of Sondheim, an award-winning composer and lyricist renowned for his 20th-century musical theater scores. Their upcoming performance is enriched by Duprey’s years of experience playing in the orchestra pit for many musicals. For Sandvik, his classical solo guitar technique and knack as an arranger for adapting Sondheim piano accompaniments to guitar, preserves essential elements of Sondheim's writing.

Long-time friends from their New England Conservatory days and both music educators today, Duprey and Sandvik will provide context and background to help the audience understand the Sondheim pieces as they bring the songs to life in an engaging, open workshop format.

The event is free, but pre-registration through TicketSource is requested. This step will allow the Zullo to reserve seats in advance for parties of 2 or more -- and tables for 4 or more --otherwise seats will be first-come, first-served. And although online ticket sales will stop at 6:30 p.m. on show day, if space allows, additional attendees will be welcome at the door.
