2 Arrested In Connection With Medford Shooting

Two teenagers have been apprehended after 10 days of unrest caused by a Salem Street shooting.

MEDFORD, MA — Two men have been charged in connection with a shooting that took place in Medford earlier this month.

Jayden Velazquez and Jalen Louis, 19, of Lynn, were arrested Thursday on outstanding warrants following an investigation by Medford Police detectives. Both are charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a firearm and striking a building. Velazquez and Louis were arraigned Thursday in Somerville District Court.

According to police, officers responded to the area of 389 Salem Street at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, following a reported shooting. No injuries were reported.

Police initially said two suspects were believed to have been involved in the incident. Both were described as wearing dark clothing, while one may have been wearing a camouflage hooded sweatshirt. Investigators asked residents and business owners in the surrounding area to review any available security, doorbell, or surveillance camera footage recorded between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.

The subsequent investigation, which included information and surveillance footage provided by community members, led detectives to identify Velazquez and Louis as suspects believed to have been involved in the shooting, according to police. Both were subsequently issued arrest warrants and taken into custody Thursday morning.

The Lynn Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and K9 Unit, and FBI assisted Medford Police during the investigation.

Medford Police thanked community members who provided information and surveillance footage, saying the assistance was valuable as detectives worked to identify those believed to have been involved.
