Medford To Honor Veterans With 600 Wreaths At Local Cemetery

MEDFORD, MA — The city will once again participate in a nationwide effort honoring veterans laid to rest in the community, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced.

Oak Grove Cemetery will serve as an official location for Wreaths Across America on Saturday, Dec. 19. The city is looking to raise enough money to place 600 sponsored veterans' wreaths on the headstones of veterans laid to rest at the cemetery. Residents can also volunteer to help place the wreaths during the December event.

"Our first year participating in Wreaths Across America was such a memorable experience and showed how generous and committed our community is to honoring our veterans," Lungo-Koehn said. "I encourage everyone who's able, to sponsor a wreath or volunteer on December 19 so that together we can ensure every veteran laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery is remembered with the dignity and gratitude they deserve." Wreaths Across America is a nationwide initiative focused on remembering fallen service members, honoring those who served and teaching younger generations about the value of freedom. Nearly 5,600 locations are expected to participate across the country this year.

National Wreaths Across America Day is a free community event open to the public. Residents interested in sponsoring a wreath or volunteering can find additional information through the Wreaths Across America website.
