MEDFORD, MA — Residents will have an opportunity Thursday to learn more about a proposed project that would close a gap in the Wellington Greenway.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is holding a virtual design public hearing for the fourth phase of the project at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22. The presentation will focus on plans for a 1,700-foot shared-use path connecting existing greenway segments near Wellington Station and Revere Beach Parkway.
The proposed path would be 10 feet wide and open to pedestrians and bicyclists. According to MassDOT, the connection is intended to improve access to public transportation while expanding recreational opportunities along the Malden River waterfront.
The project would also require the city to secure a right-of-way along the route. Property acquisitions and permanent or temporary easements may be needed, according to the hearing notice.
MassDOT's land acquisition policies will be discussed during the hearing. The agency said all comments submitted in response to the presentation will be reviewed and considered as the design process continues.
Community members can register for the hearing through the MassDOT event page.
Written comments and other exhibits can also be submitted to MassDOT following the hearing. Materials intended for inclusion in the official hearing record must be emailed or postmarked within 14 calendar days and reference Project File No. 613082.
