Medford Residents Can Soon Renew Annual Parking Permits

Older residents will be given priority for in-person renewal service.

MEDFORD, MA — Locals who are a part of the Resident, Municipal, Business, Realtor, or Home Healthcare Worker Parking Programs will soon be able to renew their permits for 2027.

Online renewals for resident parking permits will begin on Sunday, Nov. 1, followed by in-person renewals on Monday, Nov. 2. The permits will be valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2027. Current permits expire after Dec. 31, 2026.

Seniors aged 65 and older must renew in person at City Hall’s Parking Department Office, located in Room 110. Senior renewals will begin on Monday, Nov. 2, and seniors will be given priority for in-person service. The city recommends coming early to avoid long lines.

A valid driver’s license and vehicle registration are required for senior renewals. The name on the license must match the registration, and both documents must have the applicant’s current Medford address.

Other residents applying in person must bring their original Massachusetts vehicle registration and proof of residency, such as a utility bill, lease, deed, Massachusetts driver’s license, or Medford tax statement. The registration must include the apartment or unit number in the garaged address. Handwritten address changes and RMV change-of-address forms are not accepted, according to the Parking Department.

“Vehicles with outstanding City of Medford parking citations more than 21 days old will not be issued a permit until payment is received,” City Hall said in the renewal announcement.

Citations can be paid online until they are 90 days past the issue date. After 90 days, a hold is placed on the vehicle’s registration with the Registry of Motor Vehicles, and the citation must be paid in cash at City Hall or by mail with a U.S. Postal Service money order.

An additional $10 late fee is added after 21, 60, and 90 days. There may also be an additional $20 fee per citation associated with lifting an RMV registration hold.

Residents renewing online can use the city’s permit portal. The Parking Department advises allowing up to four business days for an application decision. Permits must be approved and paid for before they authorize parking.

Landlord, home health care, and postal permits must be obtained in person. Realtor permits are also listed as available only in person on the Parking Department’s website.

Mailed citation payments should be sent to Medford City Hall, Room 110, 85 George P. Hassett Drive, Medford, MA 02155.
