Before Fox TV, before "War of the Worlds" on the radio, there was the nursery rhyme. It was designed, I am sure, to warn of impending danger with which this world is still fraught.
Jack Sprat and his wife were certainly advised to change their eating habits. Accidental mishaps such as unfortunate youth, Jack and Jill, experienced while hiking disasters such as Humpty Dumpty suffered (never to be repaired), sad losses of beloved pets as in the case of Ms. Peep to name only a few. The technological tragedy which was caused when an innocent mouse was struck done while trespassing on private property, was perhaps a foreshadowing of future disaster.
Red Riding Hood was warned and likewise all three piggies. There was indeed a wolf in the woods who may find his way to the door, huffing and puffing. I believe I hear him now.
