Neighbor News

December 1, 2018

Today as the temperature hovers at 34 degrees the sun is shining brightly. The lake is snow covered, and the shadows of the trees on this side create a quiet winter scene.

The trees acrossthe white expanse stand tall and green against a background of a beautiful blue sky spotted with wispy clouds.

The sand bank looks good enough for sledding but now it adds to the silence of the day.

The birds are busy at the feeders; chickadees, gold finch, junco, a titmouse and the blue jays all eating heartily.

The large grey squirrels are all about and the smaller red ones seem to be getting their share of fallen seeds also.

When I arrived yesterday I discovered a red squirrel had taken residence in the house. Tomorrow a friends will come with a have-a-heart trap so we can move the animal back outdoors and repair the damage.

The dog does not seem to scent the animal, but at almost 18 years old she is just happy to lie on the sofa and wait for lunch or snack time.

The birches blend in with the surrounding green trees. The bare branches are like dark lace hanging in midair.

It is a beautiful, peaceful time to just look out the window at the wonder of the day.
