An especially warm day here in Maine

The temperature is 40 degrees; a far cry from the minus zero's we have been having these past few weeks.

The ice is melting off the roof making it look like it is raining outside the window.

The lake is frozen and clear minus any footprint; and the sky is in beautiful shades of blue.

I cannot her the wind from inside the house, but the tall pines move to a slow dance that they hear.

Piles of snow rest on the picnic table and fireplace; and the evergreen by the window has a crown of white also.

I have filled the feeders but have not seen any birds yet; it is still early in the day.

The air seems still. The snow on the beach, and that covering the canoe are vibrant white.

There are fallen branches to add an unusual pattern on the snow beneath the birch trees.

The day is quiet and peaceful filling me with a calmness I seem to find only in this place.
