The Backyard Gardeners Presents Weston Nurseries Landscape Designer as Guest Speaker

The Backyard Gardeners will present guest speaker Henry Schmidt, Senior Associate and Landscape Designer with Weston Nurseries at the January meeting. Henry has been an indispensable figure at Weston Nurseries of Hopkinton for over 40 years. His Horticultural expertise includes; propagation, growing, harvesting, field maintenance and design and sales. He has been a key member of the Garden Center Staff in a variety of roles spanning four generations of this family-owned business. His talk "A Pruning Primer" is timely due to the weather conditions of this fall and winter. Shaping and controlling shrubs and trees can seem like a daunting task even to an experience gardener! Come and learn some basic techniques and tips to help you properly maintain these plants in your home landscaping.

The meeting will be held in the Meeting Room of the Melrose Public Library, 69 West Emerson Street, on Tuesday evening, January 10, starting at 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Join the Backyard Gardeners for this free and fun program! All gardeners and members of Garden Clubs in the area are welcome. The Backyard Gardeners is a group of men and women who share a common interest in all aspects of home gardening. Our members come from Melrose, Wakefield, Stoneham and the surrounding Middlesex area.

We meet monthly in the evenings from Sept. to May (locations may vary), summer meetings are trips to member gardens.
