A few hours at ELL Pond

Today it is overcast at Ell Pond. As I sit in my car reading the lake looks brown, and I can see the water flowing east.

There are no ducks or swans. The sky is gray with white clouds moving very slowly, occasionally spreading apart to allow a bit of blue to appear. The sun shines quickly in its given moment and then the grey takes over again.

The bare trees look ominous, like a back drop for a scary movie. They move easily with the wind, creating a dance, and making music for the movie.

I have not seen any people this past hour, but a few robins are present. The beautiful small birds hop along the grass looking for worms or leftover drops of food.

From inside the car I can hear no noise. What I see is the lake and trees moving with the wind, and the clouds, grey and white making this a silent movie for me to enjoy. The rain starts gently and it is time for me to leave.

Rain, hail, lightning, and thunder followed me home. The wipers were on high moving the frozen pellets across the windows. The streets started to look like a first winter storm covered with white.

Fifteen minutes later blue skies and sunshine quickly melted the fallen remnants of the storm.

At 7pm the sun is shining and the day starts to taper down as I look out the window to my back yard.

This has been just another spring day in Melrose.
