Helping Hand: Melrose Officer Caught Doing Good Deed

MELROSE, MA — A Melrose officer put the 'serve' in 'protect and serve' Friday morning.

Police posted a photo of Officer John Goodhue changing a tire for a woman who he noticed was having car problems. Goodhue was working a detail on Upham Street when he spotted the woman in distress.

The woman said she came off Route 1 and hit a curb, causing a flat. AAA was on its way, but not for another half hour. He offered to change the tire himself.

"This is a true example of what it means to be a community police officer,” Chief Michael Lyle said. "I commend Officer Goodhue for this good deed and for going above and beyond to help a resident in need."
