It is quiet at Quannapowitt

The water flows from east to west reaching for the warm afternoon sun.

Across the lake the houses stand tall and still and the traffic flows smoothly, because of the lack of cars. The silent houses reflect the times..no holiday parties, no sound of the drums or songs; no smell of hot dogs or burgers on the grill.

There seems to be a hundred or more seagulls on the opposite shore line having a holiday gathering.

On this side of the lake, three ducks were resting under a tree by the edge of the lake; but at the movement of a dog they headed for the water.

The Canadian Geese have been moving about in their usual formation while protecting their young; both in the water and on the shore.

The sound of the traffic behind us is a monotonous, continuous drone of wheels rushing across the black roadway.

Here where we sit, in our cars with the windows open, the sounds of the birds add beauty to the scene before us.

The ground birds, the robins, sparrows and red winged blackbirds sense the quiet time of day.

The birds overhead seem to float in the air, as they catch a breeze and soar across the blue sky.

It is pleasant today at Quannapowitt.
