Leila Migliorelli Kicks-off Campaign At New Buckalew’s Location
Voters pack Main Street store to meet Alderman-At-Large candidate
A broad mix of well-known Melrose officials and energized voters alike packed the new Buckalew’s last Thursday to meet Leila Migliorelli as she kicked off her campaign for Alderman-At-Large. The eager crowd heard the first-time candidate discuss an array of topics: from her return to Melrose, to her professional experience, to the issues that inspired her to run.
While promising to be an advocate for all, Migliorelli plans to focus on smart growth, fiscal responsibility, and infrastructure improvement. She also touted her professional experience as it relates to these issues.
“My 19-year experience working in nonprofits and higher education uniquely qualify me for this role. In my work at Tufts University, I am committed to ensuring that donors’ gifts are being spent appropriately. To do that, you not only need to be diligent and practice fiscal responsibility, but must also build relationships across the university to ensure commitments are being fulfilled, and donors can be engaged in the process.”

Local business owner Michael Stankavish worked with Migliorelli on the Melrose Human Rights commission. He offered his thoughts on the candidate during the event.
“Leila knows how to best use her own strength to lift up those around her. She is a steady hand in both times of calm and change,” said Stankavish. “And, as a small business owner, I know she has our interest at heart, to help grow the city in a smart, sustainable way.”

Migliorelli discussed the importance of smart economic development. Highlighting her work helping women start and grow small businesses.
“A vibrant Main Street, with locally-owned small businesses, is key to helping us retain our small-town charm and economic vitality,” said Migliorelli. “Those entrepreneurs, not unlike the business owners here on Main Street, faced a variety of challenges in opening their businesses, from navigating the permitting process to finding funding opportunities. I think we can all agree that we want stores like Buckalews to be given the opportunity to thrive, and that can be done with the support of city government.”
Ward 3 resident and Lincoln School parent Rachael Cordella was there to show her support for Migliorelli.
“Leila isn’t the type of candidate who says something just to win votes. She is someone with a strong vision and who stands by her convictions,” Said Cordella. “I feel confident that she represents the best of our community.”
“I’m humbled and honored by the support both tonight and since I announced my candidacy,” said Migliorelli. “I look forward to meeting voters throughout the summer and committed to upholding Melrose’s motto: One Community, Open to All.”
