I am proud to join with Cummings Home Improvement LLC & Tiger Dumpsters to co-sponsor this citywide cleanup this Saturday & Sunday, April 28 & 29.
We are asking residents to give a little of their time to pick up trash that has built up on our streets and sidewalks. Volunteers may work with a team or simply collect trash on their own and place it in the Tiger Dumpster near DPW headquarters (72 Tremont St) anytime from 9 am – 6 pm on Saturday or Sunday.
For community members who need supplies (gloves & trash bags), we ask that you contact the Captains in your Ward directly. Each Captains has agreed to coordinate efforts in their ward.

Some have chosen to meetup at specific times listed below along with publicly shared addresses for material pick-up. We have been primarily organizing on Facebook, and most captains have requested private messages for contact. Links to their Facebook pages provided whenever possible.

In addition many community groups have stepped up with their own cleanups and we hope more will join in!
- Kate Hulbert and Brownie Troop 69010 will be attacking Hesseltine Park and the surrounding area on Sunday
- Girl Scout troop 65419 will be doing the cabbage patch and areas around the middle school
- First Congregational Church will be cleaning up its property and surrounding area led by Gary Lamothe
The response from the community thus far has been phenomenal. We literally could not have done this without the generosity of Cummings Home Improvement LLC & Tiger Dumpsters who are providing the dumpster, supplies and paying for the trash removal.
This event would not be happening without Ted Cummings of Howard Street, owner of Melrose-based Cummings Home Improvement LLC, who said he reached his boiling point while walking his dog and seeing all the trash in his neighborhood. Rather than watch people in the Melrose Facebook groups argue over who is at fault, Cummings decided to take action.
Let’s join him this weekend and Make Melrose Clean Again!
