Why I am Voting for Manisha Bewtra for Mayor of Melrose on September 17.

This summer I have knocked on almost 400 doors to talk with Melrose residents about why I support Manisha Bewtra for Mayor. I heard from people of all ages, experiences, backgrounds, and views. Reflecting on those conversations, it strikes me that we all want our city to be run with strong planning and leadership, accountability, transparency and public process.

Manisha’s education and work experience are just what Melrose needs in our next Mayor.

Manisha has a master’s degree in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania and more than 15 years of experience working as a city planner. She has helped cities and towns across Massachusetts solve their problems and make the most of their opportunities.

Manisha has extremely high standards for communication, public participation, and decision-making. She will make information about the city’s annual budget and long-range investment priorities available and accessible to everyone, and involve us in helping to shape these priorities.

We will be on a better course economically if we elect Manisha. She relies on scientific evidence and best practices and will make adjustments as needed to increase the efficiency of systems, such as those for snow removal and building inspections. She will bring professionalism to her every day in office.

Manisha’s positive impact on our city includes her leadership as an Alderman-At-Large, her service as the Vice Chair of the Melrose Human Rights Commission, and her work as the project manager of “Melrose Forward: A Community Vision and Master Plan,” the city’s ten-year plan and policy guide.

City Hall is a complex public institution that belongs to you and me. We need a leader, not just a manager. Manisha is the best candidate to protect what we love most about our city, while leading us toward a strong and vibrant future.

Join me on September 17 voting Manisha Bewtra for Mayor of Melrose!

Sincerely,

Jane Appleyard Allen
