Melrose Adds 2 Electric Cars to Its Fleet

The city acquired the vehicles thanks in part to state funding.

Thanks in part to state funding, the City of Melrose is adding a bit of electricity to some of its modes of transportation.

The city added two battery electric vehicles to its motor pool, according to a Wicked Local report. Melrose received $7,500 per vehicle in state incentives and also was awarded $15,000 for an electric charging station from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, the report added.

The cars—Ford Focus models—are being driven by Capt. John White of the Melrose Fire Department and City Engineer Andy Street during their time on their jobs, the report stated. The vehicles can travel 80 to 100 miles on a single charge, the report added.

Melrose’s charging station, which is open to public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is behind Memorial Hall.
