Melrose Honey Dew Abruptly Closes After 2 Decades
Patch spoke with the franchisee, who was sorry for how it ended but hopes to see her customers again real soon.

MELROSE, MA — Honey Dew Donuts abruptly closed Tuesday, surprising longtime customers who showed up Wednesday morning.
Lisa Kennedy-O'Dowd, the franchisee, was sorry for how it ended after nearly two decades in the plaza that also has Whole Foods and Liberty Bell, among others stores.
"We truly love our loyal customers," she told Patch over the phone.

Kennedy-O'Dowd indicated something else could come down the road, but Honey Dew was finished in that spot for now with its lease up. She and her brother own another Honey Dew at 362 Main St. in Stoneham - and it'll have Karima, who Kennedy-O'Dowd said is everyone's favorite employee.
"We'd love to see our customers there," she said.

There is another Honey Dew location, not owned by Kennedy-O'Dowd, at 915 Main St. in Wakefield.
Honey Dew was an active member in the community, sponsoring local Little League, supporting Home for the Holidays and contributing to raffles.
"It wasn't just a place to get your coffee," said Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce Lauren Grymek, who herself was a regular at Honey Dew. "I think it became a regular spot, a place to catch up. How do you put a value on that in terms of contributing to the community?"
