MELROSE, MA— Melrose's economics team continues to find success in competition, most recently taking the Econ Showdown title on April 12, according to an announcement from Melrose Public Schools.
The regional high school competition, sponsored by the Learning Economics and Finance (LEAF) Network, gathered 15 teams and over 60 students from across the Commonwealth to compete in the state's only event of its kind. Students answered both macro and microeconomics questions through written exams, trivia and a quiz-bowl-style format.

“The students really showed their knowledge of economic concepts and their ability to apply them in a real-world setting," said Bryan Corrigan, director of social studies at MHS and the team's coach in a statement Monday. “I am so proud of all of our competitors. They did great and had a lot of fun.”
Melrose topped Belmont High School to take the title. According to the announcement, students participated in a critical-thinking round that required them to use economic theory to offer policy recommendations for the county of Estonia as it endured a financial crisis.
