MELROSE, MA — A Melrose family lost their home in a three-alarm fire that burned through the top floors as a stunned group of neighbors and passersby watched Saturday night across Lebanon Street. No one was hurt in the blaze.
Firefighters were still tending to 504 Lebanon St. as Saturday turned to Sunday. The stubborn flames that earlier had ripped through the roof could still be seen flickering late into the evening.
"I was petrified," Tom Schinkel, who lives across the street, told Patch. He left the Melrose Symphony Orchestra when he heard. "I only saw flames."

Dozens of firefighters from several surrounding cities responded. Many, including some city officials, huddled across the street as the family was tended to by emergency personnel and neighbors.
"No one is hurt," Mayor Gail Infurna said after speaking with the family. She said she offered them any services the city could provide.
