Melrose Firefighters Battle House Blaze In Frigid Temperatures

Everyone made it out of the house safe.

MELROSE, MA — Icy temperatures beared down on firefighters battling a house fire on First Street Sunday morning.

No one was injured during the fire as the two people at home made it out, but police said a dog was still missing as of 8 a.m. Community members have since reported the dog was found alive.

Emergency responders got to 237 First St. around 7 a.m. The rear of the home took heavy damage.

The house is a couple homes down from being directly across from the Winthrop School.

The temperatures Sunday morning were in the low 20s and the wind chill bit even deeper. The ground surrounding a nearby fire hydrant was covered in frozen water.

As of 11 a.m., the community had contributed $1,450 to the family in a GoFundMe.
