Melrose High School Principal Finalists Meet with Residents Next Week

Daniel Richards, Belmont High School assistant principal for instruction, and Adam Bakr, Marlborough High School assistant principal, are the two remaining candidates to replace the retiring Joe Dillon.

Melrose parents have an opportunity next week to meet the two finalists to replace the retiring Joe Dillon as principal of Melrose High School.

Daniel Richards, currently the assistant principal for instruction at Belmont High School, will meet with the public on Tuesday, April 12 from 5-6 p.m. in the Melrose High School Heritage Room. Adam Bakr, currently the assistant principal at Marlborough High School, will meet with the public on Wednesday, April 13, same time and location.

The assistant principal for instruction in Belmont for the past six years, Richards was previously an assistant principal for one year at Peabody High School, according to a brief bio provided by Melrose Superintendent Joe Casey. He also has seven years of of teaching experience, including experience as a department head within the Computer and Business Department. He has taught courses in Advanced Computer Applications, Web Page Design, Business Law, Marketing, Accounting and Keyboarding. He earned a bachelor's business degree from Niagara University, a master's of education from Salem State and a master's of management from Cambridge College.

Bakr has been the assistant principal at Marlborough High School for the past four years and six years of teaching English and English/History/Geographic Information Systems in both the Marlborough and Boston Public School Districts. He earned a bachelor's degree in English and American literature from Harvard University's Division of Continuing Education and earned a graduate degree in School Administration from Simmons College.
