Melrose Mayor Urges Voters to Approve Proposition 2 1/2 Override
Dolan's proposed override would increase the annual tax bill of a single-family home by $244.

Mayor Robert Dolan is urging Melrose residents to approve a Proposition 2 1/2 override in support of the city’s schools and public safety needs. Voters are set to decide on a proposed property tax increase come Nov. 3.
According to The Boston Globe, Mayor Dolan has been meeting with voters throughout the summer, informing them that his proposed $2.25 million override is necessary for the communities “financial health.”
The mayor says it isn’t a school override, despite the fact that much of the funding would go directly to the public schools system. Dolan told the Globe that it’s a “city of Melrose override” and that it affects “where we’re going as a city.”
