Melrose Offers Safe Spot To Complete Online Transactions

MELROSE, MA — Say you make a transaction online, but can't verify if the item or seller (or buyer) is trustworthy. Melrose now has a safe spot for you to complete your transaction.

Melrose Police are implementing a new program where people can meet up to complete such deals, patterning with OfferUp to establish a "MeetUp Spot" at the police station lobby. The location should provide security and peace of mind for all involved.

The police are making note that they cannot guarantee the quality or authenticity of the items, but they should be providing a spot you can make the deal without worrying. The police station is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is covered by security cameras.

"We understand that over the years more residents have moved to online shopping and regularly use sites like Craigslist to purchase and sell items," Chief Michael Lyle said. "Because of this, we want to offer a safe place for community members to meet to make these online transactions. We encourage residents and business owners to take advantage of this new program."
