Melrose One of America's Safest Cities: Study
Despite a big drop in the rankings, Melrose is still in the top 100 Safest Cities in America for 2017, according to Neighborhood Scout.

MELROSE, MA — Despite a big drop in the rankings, Melrose is still in the top 100 Safest Cities in America for 2017, according to Neighborhood Scout.
Melrose is ranked No. 86 after being ranked No. 47 the year before.
According to Neighborhood Scout's data, there are 0.96 violent crimes per 1,000 residents in Melrose per year, and 9.97 property crimes per 1,000 residents. Both figures are significantly lower than the violent and property crime rates nationally and statewide.

Neighborhood Scout further indicates that you have a 1 in 1,037 chance of becoming a victim of violent crime in town, and a roughly 1 in 100 chance of becoming a victim of property crime.
Melrose was listed as the 19th-safest community in Massachusetts.

Neighborhood Scout's data ranks the 100 safest cities in America with 25,000 or more people. The rankings are based on the total number of property and violent crimes per 1,000 residents.
