Melrose Storm Update: Latest On Outages

Roughly 1,000 people were still without power this morning.

MELROSE, MA — Wow. You're local Patch reporter escaped to a weeklong Caribbean vacation and spent much of Friday in a Florida airport watching the storm take place along the East Coast. I got back early this morning.

Let's update where Melrose is on storm recovery before catching up on all the news of the week I've missed.

Police said at 8 a.m. that about 1,000 in Melrose were still without power. The City followed that up at 9:30 by saying about 1,110 homes were without power. The outages were primarily around Main Street from Wyoming to Sylvan, with additional outages along Lebanon and Forest, and portions of Ward 3, the City said.

National Grid says some of these outages are expected to be fixed by the early afternoon. Chief Michael Lyle is asking for any residents with concerns for themselves or others call the police at 781-665-1212.

A post on the Melrose Facebook Community Group reported that one of the outages had the traffic lights out on Main Street by Grove and Wyoming. The poster even reported that some people were at the Dunkin' Donuts charging their phones, presumably because they are still among outages.

Melrose Public Works has a busy weekend ahead of them, as several branches and even trees went down across the city.
