Melrose's Hammar To Run For State Senate

Samantha Hammar will challenge Jason Lewis in the 5th Middlesex District.

MELROSE, MA — Samantha Hammar is looking to take her strong voice for "working families and women" to the next level. The Melrose resident has filed papers to run against State Senator Jason Lewis in the 5th Middlesex District.

Hammar is the Chair of the Melrose Democratic City Committee and serves on the city's Women Commission. She has spent the last year and a half as Director of Digital Engagement for the Massachusetts Office of the Treasurer and Receiver General.

Hammar said on her website she is running in part because of her own challenges she faced as a working mother raising twin daughters. Hammar struggled in finding affordable and accessible childcare, a battle she still fights on the Melrose Women's Commission. She is running to "follow her passion for doing what is most needed for working families and women."
