New Wine Bar Aims To Be Gathering Place For Melrose Community

Table Four recently launched in Melrose.

MELROSE, MA — A new wine bar and eatery is enjoying its first months in Melrose.

Table Four opened at 169A West Emerson St. directly across from Bowden Park in late January in the Cedar Park neighborhood. Founder Lorrie Overgaag said her new business is unique to others in the city.

“It’s got a European vibe, small, intimate, cozy, and romantic,” Overgaag told Patch about her business. “I don’t have a full kitchen so my menu is limited, but the quality of what I serve is top notch.

According to Overgaag, Table Four’s menu features charcuterie boards, warm baguettes, olives, and other small bites. Her time in and around the restaurant industry began when she was a child and would go into work with her mother, who spent time working at Cambridge restaurants such as Fantasia, Frank’s Steak House, and Charlie’s Kitchen. Overgaag got her first bartending job at Charlie’s at the age of 19, where she would go on to spend the next 25 years.

Overgaag decided to finally launch her own venture with Table Four.

“I’ve always wanted to open a small wine bar, where you can come relax and feel at home,” Overgaag told Patch. “My youngest of four is going off to college in September and I decided this is the time.”

She believes her business achieves an intimate atmosphere due to the lack of screens, whether it’s television or people on their cell phones. And she believes people are comfortable there due to the aesthetic and hospitality.

“The community has been amazing,” Overgaag said. “Very welcoming, and excited to have this gem in their neighborhood. I wanted to create a space where could reconnect and that’s what is happening.”

Table Four offers red wine, white wine, Rosé, and Sparkling Champagnes.
