Online Travel Mag Mocks Melrose

There’s nothing unusual about having a love/hate attitude about your hometown. Of course, some people lean harder toward the dark side of the spectrum than others.

The online travel and food magazine Thrillist published an article titled “Does Your Boston Suburb Suck? An Investigation,” that mixes good-humored ribbing with fairly tasteless slights from former (current?) Boston suburbanites. For better or worse, it critiques a substantial portion of Eastern Mass. towns.

Here’s what Thrillist had to say about Melrose....

“Exactly like the show ‘Melrose Place,’ except the Billy in this Melrose just works part-time slinging cheeseburger subs at Liberty Bell.”

Hm. Actually, that almost sounds like a compliment.

What do you think? Is Thrillist right? Is Melrose a land of nonstop, occasionally steamy, drama and intrigue? Is Liberty Bell Roast Beef and Seafood inexplicably staffed mostly by dudes who look like Andrew Shue? Or perhaps Thrillist exaggerates a wee bit?
