Passing of a friend

Saying goodbye is not easy. It's not like you are going out to dinner with friends, or to a movie or even a long trip. This goodbye is forever. I can't think what to say that might make me feel better.

Carol, I will miss you in Melrose; takeout lunches at your apartment, and conversations about all things. Pleasant and unpleasant, even the political talks gave me an insight to part of your world.

I will miss you in Maine, although you only came once. I will see you in the flowers and plants and trees; and when a butterfly stops a moment, I will think of you.

I will think of you when I hear the birds, and the sound of the wind in the trees.

I will remember some of the things we spoke about, people and places, and current events.

And some evening when I see a really bright shining star fly by,I will think of you and I will know that you are at peace in the universe.
