PEANUT BUTTER VALENTINE TIME!

Find out what's happening in Melrosefor free with the latest updates from Patch.

The historically generous and warm hearted people of Melrose are invited to give a special “valentine” to their neighbors by donating a jar of peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit, or other currently dated dry good to A Servant’s Heart Food Pantry. This drive has been tremendously successful in the past years and we are brimming with excitement to get started again.

Ten years ago, former Human Rights Commissioner member Katy Kennedy requested that people add peanut butter for a family in need to their Valentine’s Day list. The response of Melrose residents willing to match the cost of a card to jar of peanut butter , led to a new tradition: jars and goods have been collected ever since. Melrose High School students and the Food Pantry now work together annually meeting the needs families throughout a month known for the expression of love and friendship as well as it's cold temperatures.

Throughout this entire month, drop off your donations in the beautifully decorated Valentine’s Day boxes located at: City Hall, Melrose Public Library the Milano Senior Center, Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Melrose High School, Mayor’s Office, Dance Track Studio of Wakefield, Melrose Middle School , Roosevelt Elementary School, Levi Gould Apartments, Northern Bank and Trust, Boston Tailored (Tremont Street), Rockland Trust, Stephens Auto Body, Lilah Rose, and Tramontozzi Law Office (114 W. Foster St. Melrose).

There is much to give and great need to receive this February.

Peanut Butter offers an exceptional combination high protein, of a long shelf life, does not require refrigeration and does not require preparation. “Peanut Butter it is “the most requested food item from food pantries, shelters and soup kitchens nationwide”. However, this desired item is harder and harder to afford. Fortunately, with the help of the people of Melrose and the Peanut Butter food drive; there is restored hope that more people will be able to consume a yummy protein-filled jar of peanut butter this year and the years to come.

This event focuses on Peanut Butter, but please consider donating any currently dated food shelf items, Jelly (strawberry or other), and fluff. Cereals, coffee and other canned goods are all welcomed by the pantry, but we are focusing on Peanut Butter and Jelly this year.

Two Years ago, we raised 730 goods together. MHS Students raised over 1,000 goods last year! This year is my last year coordinating the drive, it will be moving into the capable hands of current juniors and sophomore Emma Winey, Holly Moore, Lauren Abramson , Cian Murphy, Anna Burtnett and others in 2018. In my last year I hope we-continue our trend of increasingly generous food donations to families struggling to make ends meet, Help us make facing the freezing temperatures easier without the worry of hunger.

As well the many drop off locations; Please join MHS students at
