Photo Gallery: Melrose Baseball Falls to Wakefield in Eight
The Melrose High baseball team lost to visiting Wakefield, 4-3, on Monday at Pine Banks Park.
The last meeting between the Wakefield and Melrose High baseball teams took 10 innings to decide. Unfortunately for the Warriors, they came out on the losing end of a 8-4 decision.
Monday’s rematch at Pine Banks Park also took extra innings to decide, but this time Wakefield came out on the winning end of a 4-3 ballgame.
The Warriors took a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth, but Melrose (13-6, 12-4) came back to tie it three runs with both Chris Fimiani and Jum Runge coming around to score.

Wakefield pitcher Brendan DeLeire pitched seven strong innings for the Warriors (6-11) and scored the game-winner in the top of the eighth to give himself and his team the win.
The junior right-hander led off the inning with a walk, was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Adam Gianola, and then scored on a swinging bunt by Nick Calderon that sailed wide at first base.

Senior pitcher Connor O’Brien came in in the bottom of the inning and allowed a one-out double, but recorded the final two outs to pick up the save.
Melrose will be at St. Mary's of Lynn today at 4 p.m. and will end the regular season on Wednesday at Pine Banks Park with a game against Watertown at 3:45 p.m.
