Winthrop School Broken Into, Vandalism

Tuesday, July 5, 7:16 a.m. A janitor reported that someone had broken into the overnight, Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said.

There were some desks pushed over and papers thrown about, but no permanent damage done to anything inside the school, DeCroteau said. Nothing immediately appeared to be missing.

Monday, June 27, 9:36 p.m. An employee of Elmhurst Nursing Home on Main Street called police and reported that she found a man sleeping in her van when she came out from work.

DeCroteau said the man "was a little bit unresponsive" and had "apparently been treated recently somewhere," based on the hospital wristband he was wearing. The man was taken by ambulance to for "unknown medical reasons," DeCroteau said, and there was no damage to the van.

A 37-year-old Jamaica Plain man was issued a summons on Wednesday, June 29 on the charge of unarmed robbery.

A 34-year-old Winthrop woman was placed under warrant arrest on Wednesday, June 29.

A 52-year-old Malden woman was issued a summons on Thursday, June 30 on the charge of larceny under $250.
