We started our fun stuff for this month on August 8th.
The bus arrived at the Woburn Senior Center already loaded with 26 people that have come from New Bedford and 11 from Lakeville Ma. Eleven of us, (5 being Red Hatters) bordered the bus at 10:25 and we were off to Fosters
Lobster-bake in York Maine. The rain came down but the bus driver kept on going and passengers kept on talking.

Today's trip was to eat and enjoy....
Eating started with clam chowder, followed by Steamed Mussels, Maine Clams, Corn-on-the-Cob, Potatoes and Onions and of course a Whole boiled Lobster. There was rolls, butter and beverages. Dessert was wonderful blueberry cake.

The enjoyment came next and it was the performance of the Corvettes Doo Wop Revue.
The music of the 1950's filled the hall at Fosters. For over an hour we heard song from our memory and high swingin days. Come Go With Me, Little Darlin, At the Hop, The Twist, Rock Around the Clock, Twistin' The Night Away, Shake Rattle & Roll and many more.
There was a small group of people moving to the music in the corner of the restaurant, and many just tapping toes and waving hands at their tables as the music played on.
Wonderful day to be out of the rain and be with a group of happy people of our age that remembered those Good Old Days.
The sun was out as we re-entered the bus and a group of happy people headed home.
August 13th and ....
It’s Base Ball, 1864 style at Spencer Peirce Little Farm! These fun, historically accurate games
were played in the 1860's. The teams playing represent actual teams that played in New
England during the 19th Century!
- Grass field seating: bring blankets and lawn chairs
- No reserved seating
- Weather permitting
The Essex Base Ball Organization, a non-profit “vintage” baseball group that plays baseball as it was
played in the 19th century. Games are based out of Newbury, MA and have four teams in our organization the Essex Base Ball Club, Lynn Live Oaks,Lowell Base Ball Club, and Newburyport Clamdiggers. One of their goals is to teach the history of baseball through games and demonstrations. In addition to playing a full schedule of games every summer.
This an annual event for us. A fun day, bringing our chairs and sitting on the sidelines up close to the game.
This day there were to be three games. First game Lowell and Rockingham where the score ended with Rockingham winning 12 to Lowell's 8. The second game Lynn and Newbury with Lynn winning with their score at 14 and Newbury only 4.
The winners of each game then started a playoff for the winner to receive the Fiber Revival Cup. A most prestigious award.
The umpire Jeff Peart was dressed in the original outfits of the officials in the 1800's. The privilege to umpire was usually given to the Mayor or town official.
The playoff game started with fewer fans along the sidelines. Followers and family members of the Lowell ad Newbury teams were leaving since their teams were out of the race for the valued trophy.
Lynn and Rockingham squared off for the playoffs. Lynn was ahead 5 to Rockingham's 3 when the weather changed.
A few drops and then the rain came down. The players ran to save the trophy and the onlookers, like ourselves, ran for the cover of our cars. We were off to the Agawam Diner for a late lunch and never did know if the game continued or not.

16de Agosto..Since we missed cinco de Mayo we decided to catch up with our Mexican appetites today.
We know, and we like Mexico Lindo, right here in Melrose, so off we went....
I must start out by saying we were disappointed at the change in the decor. The colors were always vibrant, magical, Mexican, and fun to look at. The new upscale black leather booths are comfortable I guess but not the same..
Now to the good news ..the food is excellent, and the waiters efficient and courteous; and we always mange to spend time eating and talking, so we made our own colors.
It was just another Red Hatter's day out together. We enjoy each others company and always have some fun along the way.
Here it is...Labor Day and in our minds the end of Summer,. There will still be warm days, but once this week-end is over the kids are back to school, we think football, and look forward to many more outdoor Red Hat trips. Come along and join us..
