Red Hatter for January 2019

Happy New Year to all our readers; please continue to follow us as we start the New Year by getting going on January 1st 2019.

This day we decided on renewing our youth by going to a movie in Danvers to see Mary Poppins Returns.

It has been a while when we thought we could fly among the clouds and enjoy a magical day. The movie took us back but brought us forward to where we are now.

We range in age from 60 plus to 89 and we are magic to each other. A group of Red Hatters that just want to have fun and enjoy each other’s company; and we do that every time we meet.

The movie was light and fun and enjoyable, and we were all glad we decided on this picture for today.

After the movie we headed to Sylvan St. Grill for lunch. We ate well and had doggie bags to go. We talked about last year’s accomplishments and this New Year plans.

We are on our way to a SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS year; and we wish you the same.

January 15 and the Peabody Essex Museum was our destination. We were excited to see the exhibit of the Empresses of China’s Forbidden City. Having been there with a friend a number of years ago I was especially happy to spend a few hours viewing the clothes, the pieces of adornments and read about the history of the Qing dynasty from 1644 to 1912.

It was an exciting exhibit with colors and stories that reclaimed the history of these empresses whose contributions had remained largely silent –until now.

There were nearly 200 spectacular treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing (known as the Forbidden City).

We were happy to have seen this part of history celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of U.S.- China diplomatic relations and the cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Our lunch was at Sylvan Grill in Danvers, and as in the past, the food and service helped to make this a great day.

We did have another function planned; but Mother Nature kind of gave us sub- zero temperatures to deal with so that trip is on hold for now.

We will make up our January loss at another time, for sure.

The weather will be getting warmer so we hope you will continue to access the Patch to see what we are planning for the rest of 2019.
