RED HAT JULY 2018
July 12 and
we had three location on our road trip for today. We were able to confine our driving to the
area of Arlington Ma where the fun started.
Our first stop was Penzey’s Herb and Spice store.
The store has been in Arlington for 13 years and if you cook or bake you
have heard, if not visited this great little shop. Rows of various size bottle
with sample bottles to sniff the aroma of common and rare herbs and
spices. Wow; what great smells? A number
of our members came in with lists and out with bags full.

Our next stop was lunch at Jimmy’s where we sat at a round table, enjoyed a variety of
food and talk and thought about our next stop for dessert.
Still on Mass Avenue we headed for the Cookie store to sample and choose our delicacies
of choice. Once more there were bags on many of our hands once we left.

We talked and munched on the street, got in our respective cars (2 cars for 7 members)
and headed home for our later to be snacks.
Great weather, smiles on people around us and we did it again. We had a great day!
Not to be put out we had a Red Hat alternative
Our trip
today was to see the Movie Mama Mia playing at the
Woburn Theatre.
The movie
was fun to watch and the music is uplifting and toe tapping.
Our lunch was at the Burlington Mall and we enjoyed our meals at Legal Seafood. We hadgreat variety to choose from and a great location; even in the rain.
We will reschedule the baseball game as we progress through the summer months.
July 31st and the Telephone Museum in Waltham was our destination.

Vincent Valentine is the man in charge and our tour guide. We found out that the telephone was invented in the greater Boston area and the 1st 800 and 900 phones numbers were made in Boston.
The museum is small but full of great “stuff”. There are workshops for children and adults which helped us discover that the old analog phones bring the phones we now use into perspective. Some of the components of our Smart phones work pretty much the same as the old 19th. century phones worked.
The tour was two hours of pure interest, learning and enjoyable fun. Mr. Valentine gave us antidotes’ of his personal experience taking apart and putting together phones since was 5 years old. It was a great tour!
Lunch today was at the Copper House Tavern in Waltham. We were late because of the extended tour time, but tables were put together to accommodate the 11 members; and we ate and talked and enjoyed this prefect Red Hat Day.
Now we plan our August trips so keep reading the Melrosemirrorpatch to find out where we are going next month.
